Things turned a little different than planned today. José and Marlon did not make it back from Managua as planned by 1pm today. We decided to go out just with Christian about 2:30 to head for La Campana area, but once we were loading gear to head out we found our truck had a flat tire and the spare was barely that. So, no netting tonight. While we were putting on the spare tire, i saw what I think was a white-tailed hawk, but again, not a great look. Christian told us the good place to fix the flat in San Juan del Sur and we we limped to town on our spare with chunks missing and cables showing. We made it to town and met Christian's friend Bernardo who patched our tire and changed out the spare for 50 cordobas (about $2). Carol made phone. Alls to get a new set of tires on the way from Paso Pacifico. We then went on in to town to do grocery shopping at the produce shop and "super market." we found lots of great fruits including bananas, plantains, pineapples and passion fruit. Also found dried hybiscus flowers to make juice. We found a restraunt by the beach and had dinner and beers and watched the sun set. Saw more brown pelicans, magnificent frigate birds and some kind of tern. Had some great garlic shrimp (camarones de ajollo).
Once back at the house, I worked on updating GIS data, enjoyed some 7-year-old Flore de Caña rum, and watching Stu and Bill teach Victor some card games.
We'll try netting again tomorrow. It was too windy tonight anyway!
